Peru: Grape exports up to August amounted to U.S. $130 million
During the given period, Peruvian grapes reached 45 destinations, among which China, which represents 22% of total exports, with a total value of U.S. $28 million and an increase of 153% over the same period of 2012, stands out. The next position is occupied by Hong Kong, which despite having a 25% fall, reached a value of U.S. $26 million. Not far behind is the United States, with a total of U.S. $16 million, receiving 13% of Peruvian shipments of grapes.
A case in point is South Korea, a country to which, due to the establishment of a phytosanitary agreement, Peru exported U.S. $9 million in 2012, ranking tenth in the ranking of grapes destination country. In that sense, Peru expects to sign a phytosanitary protocol with Japan so that they can secure an attractive target market.
Additionally, according to some exporters, this year’s grape exports are expected to grow 20%.
Among the major companies that exported grapes in the January-August period of 2013 are El Pedregal SA, with a value of U.S. $19 million ( -4% ) and Complejo Agroindustrial Beta SA , with U.S. $17 million ( -33% ) . It should also be noted that Challapampa SAC Agricultural Company, recorded grape exports totaling U.S. $8 million, 163% more than in the same period last year.
