Bay Growers has been growing apples for over 100 years and several generations in Grey County, located 90 minutes north of Toronto, Canada. This area offers a unique micro climate ideal for growing apples due to the influence of Georgian Bay and the fertile soils in the lee of the Niagara Escarpment. These naturally occurring forces of nature yield some of the very best apples available in Canada, including Royal Gala, Ambrosia, Honeycrisp, Macintosh, Red Delicious, Northern Spy, Cortlands, and Empire.
Bay Growers markets and packs over 3000 acres of apples for growers all over Ontario as well as Grey County.
Similar to many apple growers in the North East, last year was a year to forget due to extensive frost damage in early spring, caused by unusually warm temperatures in March, bringing the trees to bud too early.
That was last year, but with ideal growing conditions this year, the crop is the best we have seen in recent memory. Apples have great size, color, taste and consistent premium quality.
Over the course of a shortened 2012 crop year, Bay Growers turned the negative growing season into a positive opportunity by installing some extensive upgrades to the facility over the winter months.
New nitrogen generation equipment was added to the storage facility, along with the latest in vision and sorting technology in the packing facility, all to improve the quality of the fruit for our demanding customers.
The company's packaging and logo has received a “new look” which they believe sends a clear message of who they are and what they are able to offer. The new website with extensive information on the company's history, products, and capabilities further enhance marketing efforts to promote the product offering to customers.
Steve Bamford was appointed Chairman and President of Bay Growers Inc. in 2012 .
Steve also aquired multiple orchards of high production apple farms in Grey County that are now known as Bamford Family Farms. Steve has brought a fresh new positive energy to the group to enhance and support the existing ownership team.
From growing, to storage, to packing to processing, Bay Growers now offers a one stop option for all your fresh apple programs, from bagged programs to cases and fully processed locally and globally fifty two weeks a year.
