EU marketing standards for fruit and vegetables, are laid down in Commission Implementing Regulation 543/2011. The KCB ensures that fruit and vegetables meet requirements. On 1st of October this year, a number of changes to the EU marketing standards came into force. The main change concerns the general marketing standard whereby the complete address of the packer/shipper has to be indicated. To see what this actually means, read here.
Another relevant change is that the requirement for class II Jonagold, i.e. the requirement for two red colour stripes, has now ended. Class II Jonagold will now appear as all other varieties do, without colour. The complete text of specific and general marketing standards and additional information relating to designation requirements can be read via the table of marketing standards and interpretation on the site of the KCB.
