Peru: Fruit exports to the Netherlands and the U.S. increase

The Exporters Association (Adex) reported that Peruvian exports of fruit reached a total of 76 markets and amounted to 702.9 million dollars between January and August this year, which represented a 15.2 percent increase of due to a spike in demand from the Netherlands and the United States.

According to figures from Business Intelligence System Adex Data Trade, the Netherlands purchased 202.1 million dollars, a 12.5 percent increase, and the United States bought $171.3 million dollars, i.e. a 22.3 percent increase.

These markets accounted for 28.7 percent and 24.3 percent of total exports of fruits, respectively, mainly purchasing avocados and mangoes.

The UK, which bought fruit worth $ 53.9 million, was located in third place followed by Spain, Hong Kong, Canada, China, Russia, Germany, Japan, Chile and Belgium, among others.

The most significant increases were from China (127.5 percent) and Germany (58.8 percent). Both countries ranked in the top ten.

The most requested Peruvian fruits abroad are the avocados, with exports that totalled $ 171 million dollars, followed by grapes, mangoes, bananas, tangerines, walnuts, strawberries, oranges, blueberries and passion fruit, among others.

Fresh and processed fruits will be part of the appeal for the thousands of buyers and visitors of the fifth edition of the Expoalimentaria fair, to be held from the 15 to the 17 of October.
