The layout of the grading and packaging plant.
The company, located in Lana (Trentino-Alto Adige), is directed by Robert Longobardi , who set out to build a complex as big as two football fields. It supervised all of the phases and 50 containers were needed just to send the material over.
The four packaging lines were designed by engineers at Longobardi to meet the needs of the Australian market and specific grading tunnels, automatic palletisation and multi-purpose strapping machines were developed.

"Our commitment on the foreign markets means we can deal with the crisis well, as we export most of our products and our market is increasing," explains Gregor Lochmann (in the photo), Sales Area Manager Asia & Oceania.
"2012 was one of the "strongest" and most profitable years at Longobardi. 2013 is in line with the previous year and, in order to remain at the top of our game, we have created other technologies such as new semi-automatic and automatic packaging solutions, a new strapping system and solutions for a more efficient palletisation, which we presented at Macfrut. The last ones were shown to our clients at our new plant in Bertinoro (Emilia Romagna), for which we had arranged a shuttle service. The feedback was great: everybody was positively surprised by the technology we are using to improve fruit packaging."

Finally, a comment on Macfrut: "The organisation is very good, as always, but it cannot keep up with other international events. And there are very few interesting contacts we can make."
