"Petra Wautraets, LTV: "Possible extension with pre-sorted and industrial fruit"

"We have created a supplement for the grower with E-Wapa"

In September 2013 the electronic sales system E-Wapa was introduced by LTV and New Green. There is one sales day per week, every Thursday at 13:30 sharp. According to Petra Wautraets of LTV the first sales day on September 12 was spot on. "Parties that were in demand were sold at 0.03 percent higher than the regular price. If you get two or more buyers in the same place in a demanding market, a supplement is quickly created for the grower. A downside that we are aware of is that is there is no demand from the trade for a certain product, E-wapa, like existing clock systems, can't work miracles."

Growers platform
Petra indicates that LTV and New Green are very optimistic about the system. "We believe that growers need a platform that represents their best interest, to attract the right buyer for the right product and gain a supplement this way. The system works by auction in a limited time. The grower chooses their withdrawal price." She emphasises that people shouldn't see E-Wapa as a trading platform. "We are a growers platform. A number of growers can offer their product through www.e-wapa.com. To be able to follow the system, you need to be registered. You can register yourself and it's free," she explains. "Our mission is to create added value by guiding fruit companies through their palox sales (palox = cubic box) with a clock system. Creating and rebuilding trust among growers by way of a transparent pricing is our starting point."

Extension

"We receive registrations from the trade and growers everyday, from at home and abroad. At the end of October the system will be evaluated. We are already carefully considering extending the palox sales to pre-sorted fruit and industrial fruit. But: only in paloxes, as we do not wish to compete with existing auction systems."
