Spain: Agrupaejido expects to increase fruit and vegetable production by 20% this year

Agrupaejido, one of the giants of the fields of Almeria, is positioning itself for the start of the new campaign. The group chaired by Cecilio Guillen is starting the new campaign with the expectation of increasing its nearly 110,000 tons of fruits and vegetables production, with a turnover of around 120 million Euro, by 20%.

This year, the company, which has about 2,400 farmers, begins with an improvement in the auction of La Redonda and at La Mojonera store, which also has an organic division.

AgrupaEjido is starting a new season filled with hope and optimism, after the good results of the past season and the ambitious goals set for this one. The company announced to its farmers the upcoming opening of its new locales in La Mojonera and Cortijos de Marin.

They will also be running another auction, at El Viso (La Mojonera) pretty soon. The company will reopen the main manufacturing center for outdoor marketing, at La Mojonera Pandal, as well. It will be on the same day, Monday September 16, when the harvest of products such as pepper, zucchini and tomatoes begins.

Although it’s still early to make predictions and we have to wait for the crops to go through all their phases, markets are demanding products from Almeria.

AgrupaEjido’s commercial director, Juan Cano, explains that, "volume production will increase little by little until we reach the months of greatest intensity". He also said that the most important thing was to give farmers the best possible service because they are the key element that moves the field of Almeria. Cano says that’s the way it’s always been in their company and that they have been doubling the attention to producers in recent years.

That’s why they have improved some of their facilities, gained in receiving surface and installed new cold storage chambers and scales.

As they are the first products to be collected, zucchinis and eggplants will shine in the early days of harvest.
