Sustainable strawberry production in Spain

The Spanish company S.C.A. Agromolinillo, located in the city of Moguer (in the province of Huelva), finished their 2012 extension with an 7,0 ha Hydroponics Strawberry production unit.

The family owned and operated company invested to be able to fullfill their export obligations of Strawberries, Raspberries and Blueberries to i.e. Spain, Great Britain, France and Holland.

Mr. José Marquez, Hydroponic production manager of Agrolimillo

Supported by their Spanish advising and contracting company Famidan, located in the city of Cartaya and the manufacturer and their supplier Meteor Systems from the Netherlands, a complete production unit is realised matching with the main objectives of Agromolinillo;

“High product quality and sustainability”

Mr. Carmelo del Toro Cazorla, Director of Famidan Specialist for Hydraulic solutions and irrigation technology Famidan is dealer of Meteor Systems in this area of strawberry production.

In August last a 63.000 meter steel Strawberry gutter growing system was roll formed by Meteor Systems inside the tunnels at the Agromonillo site. Introducing the environmental -and economical friendly central drain water collecting system.
The irrigation water from the Famidan fertilization / pumping units is supplied by drippers over the full length of the gutters to the Strawberry plants in substrate. All drain water is collected inside the gutters and centrally discharged at the lowest side of the gutter into subsoil drain water collecting pipes. Protection the environment by reducing the consumption of water and keeping the fertilisers in the “closed” water system.

In addition to a higher quality and yield, also the staff, handling the crop treatments and harvesting, enjoys a labour friendly system with the gutters at a height of 1,35 meter above the soil.

Agromolillo, Famidan and Meteor Systems achieved the realization of the sustainable Strawberry production unit producing high quality soft fruits for export and protecting the environment of our generation and the next generations with an economical healthy business.
