The EU will analyze the problem of Psa in kiwifruit

The European Commission on Agriculture, will discuss the bacteria Psa in kiwifruit and the impact on European kiwi producers in January. Italian MEPs have delivered a document on the current situation in New Zealand which is causing worldwide problems.

The topic will be the consequences of Psa bacteria in kiwi productions in Europe and its prospects for the coming years. This European Commission meeting takes place because Itaian MEPs asked for a series of grants after entry of bacteria from New Zealand. Although the Italian MEPs were the ones who pressured, according to EU sources, the rest of the MEPs with an interest in the crop -France- did not refuse to perform any investigation. MEPs have not asked for any sanctions on kiwi from New Zealand, but create a line of research in Europe, to find the reasons and solutions so producers are not affected.
