Argentina: 5,000 hectares affected by hail

According to the Minister of Agro Industry, Marcelo Barg, close to 5,000 hectares were affected in Mendoza's Uco Valley, Argentina, by a hail storm on Sunday. Speaking to Radio Nihuil, he stated that while the most affected region was San Carlos, Tunuyán and Tupungato also suffered damages.

For his part, the mayor of San Carlos, Jorge Difonso, declared that "it was quite a heavy hail storm affecting 80 to 100% of the plantations in those areas, where the main crops are grapes, fruit trees, garlic and oregano. We also had problems in the stallholders' area," said the mayor. The river flooded the roads and Route 101 had to be closed. "It was very tough," said the leader.
