Germany: supply of tomatoes becoming smaller

The in the meantime shorter days in combination with cooler nights have results for the supply of tomatoes. In general the supply of product from Middle Europe became smaller as per the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) on its website.

The prices at auctions in the Benelux have increased with effect from week 38, which quickly afterwards was also noticed at wholesalers. The German supply also decreases more and more. Sales have slowed down because of the more autumn like weather, with the result that selling prices only slowly increase at the moment. However, tomatoes are not scarce at all at the moment. Round cherry tomatoes, however, are the only exception. Their prices have exploded.

In total the export supply of the entire assortment in the Mediterranean Sea area is still limited. The supply, however, increases slowly. Traditionally in the beginning of October the first supplies from Morocco are expected.
