A West Midlands producer and supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables has grown its profit during its latest financial year despite a drop in turnover. The company's produce is sold in major retailers across the UK.

Newly filed accounts for S&A Group Holdings, which operates across Central and South America, North Africa and Europe, show the company made a pre-tax profit of £2.6 mln for the year 2017, up from £1.6 mln.

However, the company, which is headquartered in Marden, has reported a decreased turnover of £72.7 mln compared to £76.7 mln in the prior 12 months. The company produces and supplies strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, asparagus, avocados and blackberries to UK sellers. describes how, during the year, the company continued to invest in blueberry production in Chile and in its UK farms.

A statement signed off by the board said: "The group's strategy is geared towards ensuring availability to consumers of UK-produced soft fruit and asparagus at affordable prices. In addition, the group will maintain its 'year-round' service to its key UK customers by sourcing good-quality imported produce when UK produce is not available."
