New sulphite-free packaging for grapes

Fra.Va. decided to adopt FIT – Food & Innovative Technologies' microwave technology for the packaging and storing ot its grapes.

Fra.Va., a leading company in Puglia for the production and commercialisation of cherries and table grapes, was the first to acquire a 2 pallet FIT system, therefore focusing on sulphite-free storing.

Sulhites, in fact, alter the flavour of grapes, often do not guarantee good storage and, in case of high residues, may cause problems for sensitive consumers.

Thanks to the Ulma packager introduced in 2015 and to punnet flowpacking (500 and 1000 gram), the company can now package 30x40 and 30x50 formats as well.

"In addition to enabling the storing of grapes in a natural way, the FIT process is useful also for the management of produce during transport, handling, and when displayed in stores," explains General Manager Vito Valenzano.

"This system in fact, guaratees a good shelf-life along the entire chain, even during long interruptions of the cold chain (over 24 hours). This way, waste is reduced."

"In addition, the fact that the material is see-through, makes it easier to carry out visual inspections after transport or storing."

The company is looking to acquire new clients and markets (both in Europe and outside Europe) who appreciate Italian fruit and enjoy natural flavours.

Thanks to the innovations introduced by Fra.Va., consumers will discover the flavour of freshly-harvested fruit and, at the same time, enjoy a healthy product.
