Anecoop launches heart-shaped watermelons

This week, Anecoop, Spain's largest watermelon marketer, has started shipping 2,000 kilos of heart-shaped watermelons to the UK. The product, which has been the result of a development and innovation process, aims to surprise the consumer, providing both them and the producers with some added value.

These watermelons are of the same variety as the Bouquet mini watermelons. The technique used to obtain them is 100% natural.

At present, Anecoop is supplying this product through one of its partner cooperatives at the request of a British supermarket chain, whose premium customers seek mostly unique products.

Thus, Bouquet seedless watermelons have a new family member, although for now, their cultivation will be carried out exclusively on demand.

Bouquet seedless watermelons have helped Anecoop become Spain's largest watermelon marketer, as revealed in the latest ranking of the specialised magazine Alimarket in 2018. It is a leading brand in the European market, where it has been present since 1992, supplying fruits and vegetables to the main distribution chains in 30 countries.

100% of Bouquet watermelons are produced in Spain. Their cultivation is carried out by Spanish producers with a high degree of specialization in this fruit. Thanks to the Bouquet program, Anecoop has managed to extend the watermelon campaign from April to the end of August.

In the current campaign, Anecoop plans to market 150,000 tonnes of watermelons, one of its flagship products, with 80% of that volume corresponding to the seedless Bouquet watermelon. In 2017, Anecoop sold 132,000 tonnes.
