Russian inspectors take inventory of Bosnia and Herzegovina apple production
Another inspection by the Russian phytosanitary has been planned for August, after a ban was implemented on apples from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The purpose of the inspection is to check how many apples are produced in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the beginning of August, in order to prevent illegal exports of apples from countries not allowed to trade with Russia. The inspectors will visit the orchards, follow the harvest, and then visit warehouses and storage facilities, as well as the institutions responsible for quality control and fruit exports in BiH.
"This will "track" the entire route that apple trees from BiH should pass on their way to Russia," said BiH Foreign trade minister, Mirko Sarovic. "I am sure that BiH will be removed from the Russian list of banned countries for the trade of apples very soon," he added .
According to Bojan Kecman from the Ministry of Agriculture-Republic of Srpskahis, "This year will be fantastic for fruit growers in the Republic of Srpska, after an increase in the production areas for apples, pears and plums. Around 1,800 hectares of new plantations have been planted in the last five years. We expect very good yields and good fruit quality."
The fruit prices in BiH are lower than in most European countries. Fruit producers are anxiously awaiting the plum harvest which will start very soon, followed by early pears and apples.
