Italy: Three new basil varieties

L'Ortolano is introducing three new basil varieties. Sales manager Andrea Pantani explains that "Sprinter (Sat 1794) is of the Genovese Classico type, medium compact, early and suitable for early sowing and periods with low light as well. The stretched leaves, quick re-growth and good resistance to bolting make it suitable for all kinds of cultivation."

Fiero (Sat 1757) is also of the Genovese Classico type. Leaves are medium-sized, plants are compact with quick re-growth and short internodes. Best performances in pots and for cutting.

Fiero

Luxor (Sat 1772) has bright-coloured wide leaves and is therefore less susceptible to downy mildew. Plants are compact and suitable for pot, floating system and industry cultivation.

"After Aromatico, Profumo and Mammolo, these three varieties were developed as part of a project to obtain material that combines morphological aspects regarding its use (pot, cutting, floating and industry) with oil essential content."

Sprinter, Fiero and Luxor certified seeds, free from pathogens and bacteria, are already available and proving popular with producers. "We'd like to thank all those who have trusted us so far. We believe these three varieties have what it takes to meet expectations."
