Italy: Avocado gap on the domestic market
Spreafico handles multiple tons of produce a year and is therefore one of the leading operators in the avocado segment. "The production of green avocados has dropped in Israel over the past few weeks, meaning there is not enough produce to meet demand. When the new campaigns will start, we might have a few difficulties finding grades suitable for the Italian market."
Luckily, Spreafico feels the gap in supplies should be filled soon. "Volumes will increase already in late March/early April however, should demand increase like it has been doing in the last period, we might find ourselves in this situation again."
The Italian market tends to prefer green avocados, but the Hass variety is also getting increasingly popular.
Recently, Spreafico has also introduced the èSquisita exotic fruit brand as well as a category management project aimed at educating Italians on how to eat these fruits.
"Hass avocados are part of the èSquisita range. The ripening level can be customised and it is part of exotic islands together with other Best Choice products." For further information:www.esquisita.it
