Elena Rogojnikova of Hagé International:

"Coming avocado season looks promising"

Last year's there were shortages at the start of the avocado season in South Africa. This was due to the drought, and later in the season the hail, experienced there. This year, the season started much better. It is expected that the ZZ2 growers will have a much stronger crop, with better sizes, for the Hass as well as Greenskins avocados.

"Here, with us, the South African season starts in week 11 with the arrival of ZZ2's first Fuerte. ZZ2's first Hass avocado arrive here in week 13", says Elena Rogojnikova, senior buyer at Hagé International. "We begin with the Maluma Hass and, ten days later, the season is followed up by the Hass avocado."

This year, Hagé International is not only focusing on Greenskins but Hass avocados too. "It is expected that the South African avocado season will also last longer than normal this year. ZZ2, our supplier, has high expectations for the season. It is expected that about 30% more Greenskins and 40% more Hass avocado will be produced and shipped", according to Elena.

In the coming weeks, Hagé International will also receive a number of containers with Hass and Fuerte avocados from Peru and Hass from Mexico on a weekly basis. "Avocado's growing popularity among consumers will contribute to this healthy 'superfood's' success in 2018", concludes Elena.
