Italy: Cost of paper and plastic material to increase by 20%

Over the past few months, different packaging and packaging material producers and logistics operators have found out that the cost of raw material has increased by almost 20%. We are talking about plastic (PP and PET) and virgin paper.

"We are worried because this is a rather delicate stage. Over the past 3-4 months, the price of virgin paper has increased by 20%. This means the cost of the products we put at the service of logistics operators will increase by 10%."

According to the operator, the increase in the price of raw material is due to a livelier demand. But manufacturers can't do anything about it because plastic and paper supplies are in the hands of just a few multinationals that make the prices.

At the same time, "we can't afford to stop our supplies as our plants work 24-7. The only thing we can do is pay the price and then find a way to regain it along the chain. Considering that paper as a raw material alone is 50% of the final cost means that a 20% increase will affect the price by 10%."
