Camposol to produce avocados in Colombia

Camposol's sales increased by 33.2% in 2017, and, according to its CEO, Jorge Ramirez, this increase is a response to the strategy of focusing on fresh products and diversifying markets, which they adopted several years ago. The executive spoke about his expectations after the start of agricultural operations outside Peru.

"We started internationalization by opening subsidiaries in the United States, Europe, and China, but the whole operation was in Peru. Now, we've begun to internationalize agricultural operations. We've bought land in Colombia and started to plant avocado in it. Supermarkets and customers were asking us to expand our productive window. We produced avocado for 16 weeks, now we will produce it for almost 50 weeks," he said.

"We couldn't produce avocado for more than 18 weeks in the Peruvian coast, so we searched for the best area outside Peru to plant this product for three years, and we chose Colombia. As of December 2017, we had planted 15 hectares in Colombia and will continue to grow until we have a production equal to Peru. The plants will start to bear fruits in three years, and there will be more volume in five to six years," he added.
