Brazil: Lower volumes of papaya export in 2018

“In January this year, there has been rainfall in the producing regions, which affected the fruit quality. As well, a very low volume was shipped this month. Only 1.85 thousand tons of papaya to all destinations, which was 51% lower than during January 2017. The initial expectations for papaya exports in 2018 are lower volumes than in 2017, because of the lower availability and also the limited quality observed in the rainy season”, explains HF Brasil in one of their recently published articles.

It is mentioned that the European Union ensures the Brazilian exporters a constant demand, because of the popularity of tropical fruit. “It is important that Brazilian producers keep attention to the pattern of international marketing, in order to maintain the good reputation of Brazilian fruit abroad.”

The number of volumes exported last year is positive, but it doesn't reach the record volumes of 2015. “The volume exported by Brazil in the year 2017 was 39.11 million tons of fruit, which was 3.1% higher compared to the year 2016. However, it’s still 1.7% less compared to the export of 2015. If we only compare the second semester of 2017, there is a decrease of 20% compared to the volumes exported during the second semester of 2015.”
