China: State of fruit market before the Spring Festival

This year, there are minor changes on the Chinese fruit market compared to previous years. Prices of certain fruit varieties have changed, but the situation is relatively stable. Some varieties of fruits are doing better than others, but the market dynamics in general are weak. The sales of pears, apples and bananas have made only 34% of last year's output. At the same time, labor costs and the prices of the cardboard boxes have risen this year, which pushed the prices of fruits up.

Overall, the sales of fruits are not going well. A lot of migrant workers have returned to their hometowns. In the past two days, more snowstorms have hit the North of China and transportation was interrupted. The market was immediately faced with troubles with supply, which will affect the prices very soon. Besides, the snowy weather is not good for shopping. That's why no one expects good sales. Usually, the Spring Festival is a powerful driving force in the fruit market. During the Festival, the rates of the fruit sales increase by 30-40% or higher.
