Results from demonstrations to assist growers and agronomists across the potato industry will be revealed at AHDB’s SPot South West Results Day on 28 November.
Among the experts at the event at Frogmary Green Farm, South Petherton, Somerset will be NIAB CUF’s Dr Mark Stalham.
In collaboration with Branston Ltd, Dr Stalham of NIAB CUF will be discussing the effects of nitrogen and irrigation on yield, skin set and tuber dry matter trials carried out at Dillington Farms in their first year as host of SPot farm South West.
AHDB Knowledge Exchange Manager for the South West, Anne Stone said: “SPot Farms provide those involved in the potato industry with a platform to explore the potential for new research and technology to have an impact on their business.
“Our South West results day will provide the opportunity to hear experts and researchers advice on issues encountered by local farmers over the 2017 season, which will give them the confidence to implement new ideas on their own farms.”
Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear the latest from Dick Goodwin, a Professor of Agricultural Engineering at Harper Adams University, who will be looking at machinery, tillage and compaction.
Professor Goodwin will relate research at Harper Adams University to the practicalities of the machinery used by potato growers in the South West and draw inspiration from recent trials of Controlled Traffic Farming for potatoes in Tasmania and New Zealand.
