"China: "Ehime oranges fill a gap in the orange market"

"Ehime oranges are a new Japanese crossbreed. After testing the breed for many years, it is now doing very well on the Chinese market. They are currently grown in small quantities in Sichuan and Zhejiang, and are one of the early ripening oranges with the highest price. What is special about this breed, is that its fruit is round, its flesh looks like gelatin, its peel is smooth, they are easy to peel, and are very sweet," according Keith from Shanghai Woke Import and Export Trade Co Ltd.

"Our Ehimes come from a collectively owned field of 1,000 hectares (10,000 mu) in Sichuan. We sell them under our brand 'Pin Ran Feng' through traditional sales channels (70%) and e-commerce platforms (30%) to large-scale distributors in East China, such as the Shanghai Huizhan Market."

"Because of the weather in Sichuan, the Ehime production starts at the beginning of October every year, and ends around the middle of November. Recently, the rainy weather has delayed our distribution by half a month. When looking at the successful sales last year, and the increasing price, we are very optimistic about the upcoming production season."

"Compared to last year, this year's Ehime production has grown, and the price has dropped around 30%. This season's price will begin low, but will then start to increase again for approximately three weeks, until large quantities of Chinese oranges will enter the market. Our Ehime are mostly packaged per 5 kilogram. Our packaging is specially designed, and made of special material that can bear around 90 kilogram."

"Because normal oranges become ripe around one month earlier, Ehime can fill a gap in the orange market. Furthermore, because their quality is as good as imported oranges, but their price is lower, Ehime have a clear advantage on the market. I am certain that this breed will develop even better on the Chinese market."
