China key recipient of expanding Mexican avocado market

On June 19, Mexico's ''El Economista'' reported that according to the Mexican National Bureau of Statistics (INEGI), consumer prices for avocado (Avocado/Aguacate) in the country grew by 94.56% between May 2016 and May 2017. 32 out of 46 sampled cities have seen increases in avocado prices of more than 90%.

The reason for this is the rapid growth of the international market demand and falling crop yield. Dr. Paz Vega, chairman of the Mexican Avocado Producers and Packager-Exporters Association (APEAM), said the international market is constantly growing in demand for Mexican avocado.

In 2016 more than a half of Mexican avocado was exported. United States, Japan and China have became major markets for Mexican avocado.
