Base can be taken apart

New shipping-friendly harvest bin launched

For the first time ever, a harvest bin has been manufactured that is efficient to ship. “This is a customer driven product,” says Hugo Ramos with Macro Plastics. “Our customers told us what they needed and we followed through,” added Ramos.

Base can be taken apart
The new product is part of the family of Hybrid bins that contains different models. “It truly is a global product as the base can be taken apart and bins nested to make it more efficient to ship.” It has a return ratio of 4:1, meaning that for every four containers of full product, one container of empty bins is needed to ship back.

Versatile bin for harvest and shipping
“Initially, we created a low-profile base for this bin,” mentioned Ramos. “The idea behind the low base was that when you nest them, they return efficiently.” However, the low-profile base was not very harvest-friendly as it sinks into the soil, which makes it difficult to pick up. “We received many requests from customers to develop a bin that could ship efficiently, but was also harvest-friendly,” said Ramos. “In response, we have created a bin with a higher-profile base, called the shipping-friendly harvest bin.” This is the most versatile bin of all as it can be used in the field and for shipping. The bin has a standard height that is very suitable to ship apples, oranges, sweet potatoes, avocados, onions, pineapples, melons, etc.

“We are selling the new product right now and the first order were shipped mid-March,” shared Ramos. “We have customers from New Zealand, Chile and Peru who already ordered the new product. It is more of a global product as the base is compatible nearly everywhere, so I expect demand to come from around the world.”

Shipper bin with high return ratio
The lower-based product was ideal for shipping and called the Shipper Bin.” It is a successful product, but some customers wanted a lower basket. Therefore, we created the Short Shipper.” The short basket is ideal to ship more delicate fruit varieties such as stone fruit and mandarins. It is mostly used for shipping and gives a great return ratio of 5:1, because of the low-profile base and the fact that the bins and bases nest into each other. “We are the first company that came up with shipping bins that nest into each other.”
