Supplies are good for sweet corn and they’re starting to ramp up more towards the spring. Warm Florida weather throughout last fall and this winter has corn tracking at an earlier pace. “We’ve had a very warm winter so corn is tracking 10-12 days ahead of normal,” said Brett Bergman of Hugh Branch. “There’s a little bit of an oversupply at the moment. I expect that to moderate in the next 10 days or so and come early April we’ll be off to the races with volume and ready to go for the spring deal.”
Prices have been fair through the winter but Bergmann said they’re depressed right now but he looks forward to a decent marketing window with good pricing. Sunshine Sweet corn is distributed throughout the United States, Canada, the UK and Holland.
Hugh Branch will be at the Southern Exposure show in Florida this week with corn, beans and their value added items and some leafy produce. “We really focus on consumer friendly and better eating varieties for the volume corn periods.”
