Dozens of Moldovan companies allowed access to Russian market

The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Inspection (Rosselkhoznadzor) announced that it has authorised about 50 Moldovan companies to export fruit to this country. The decision was made after checks showed that production in Moldova meets the necessary quality standards.

The Moldovan Food Safety Agency will oversee all fruit exports to prevent low quality exports. Shipments may begin from 21 September. The authorisation concerns apples, pears, quinces, apricots, nectarines, cherries and plums.

The President of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruit of Moldova, Iurie Fala, expressed his satisfaction, as the lifting of the restrictions will invigorate the country's fruit exports.

He was still surprised, however, to find that some companies, which have made substantial investments in quality, were not included in the list published by the Rosselkhoznadzor.

For his part, the acting director of the National Food Safety Agency, Grigore Procescu, said that the institution has made great efforts to enhance the quality of Moldovan fruits and vegetables.
