Spain: Greater production and lower prices for aubergines, cucumbers and courgettes

At the moment, Almeria's market is receiving larger volumes of various products, mainly aubergines, cucumbers and courgettes. Prices for these three vegetables have dropped this week, as demand is still moderate.

Long cucumbers are sold for between fifty and forty-two cents, the French variety reaches initial prices of forty cents, sales and final sales at around twenty cents per kilo, while the short black variety costs between sixty and thirty-five cents. Meanwhile, thin courgettes start the auctions at seventy two cents and finish at fifty-five cents, and thick courgettes range between seventy and forty five cents per kilo.

Striped aubergines are sold for between seventy four cents and fifty six cents. Long aubergines have dropped to initial prices of eighty cents and final sales at sixty cents per kilo. Green beans remain expensive, particularly the Strike, with prices ranging from two Euro and forty cents to one Euro and sixty cents. Helda beans cost between two Euro and fifteen cents and one Euro and fifty cents, while the red Perona stands at an average of two Euro per kilo.

Tomato volumes have also increased this week. The smooth variety is sold for around one Euro per kilo; the long life stands between one Euro and twenty cents and one Euro per kilo, and pear tomatoes cost around ninety cents. Meanwhile, tomatoes on the vine are sold for prices lower than seventy-five cents per kilo.

Pepper prices remain high this week. The green Italian reaches initial prices of around thirty cents and final sales at ninety cents. Lamuyo green peppers are sold for between one Euro and fifty cents and the red reaches initial prices of one Euro and seventy cents and final sales at one Euro and forty cents per kilo. Red bell pepper prices stand between one Euro and fifty cents and one Euro and ten cents, green bell peppers start the auction at eighty cents and close them at sixty-two cents, while yellow bell peppers reach initial prices of one Euro and seventy cents and final sales at one Euro and thirty cents per kilo.
