Swiss mushrooms could expand market share

In the first half of 2015, the market share of fresh Swiss mushrooms could be expanded. The Der Verband Schweizerischer Pilzproduzenten (VSP) wants to proceed on the offensive to further raise consumption.

In view of the fact that there is no border guard, the expansion of the market share is a noteworthy achievement, says a media release by VSP on the association’s summer conference.

However, the conference also showed that the challenges for producers are not decreasing. The association wants to go on the offensive with a number of measures to further increase the consumption of domestic mushrooms.

A bachelor thesis on the HAFL, ordered by the VSP, furthermore shows that lower prices, and through this, higher sales, would be possible with the help of subsidies. According to the release, VSP chairman Fritz Burkhalter asked whether they want to leave the current successful road and instead become dependent on the state. The answer would be no. Of course one should be prepared in case the price difference for imported products becomes smaller, and that this difference cannot be compensated for anymore by service and origin. Therefore the VSP demands the same basic economic conditions as import from abroad.
