China, Serbia and Romania, world’s largest plum producers

According to the latest data corresponding to the year 2013, world production of plums amounted to 11.528 million tonnes, compared to 10.708 million tonnes a year earlier. The largest global producer was China, with a total of 6.123 million tonnes, reports FAMMU / FAPA.

Other important producers in 2013 were Serbia, with 738 thousand tonnes; Romania, with 512 thousand tonnes and Chile, with 306 thousand tonnes, Turkey and Iran follow, with 305 thousand tonnes; Bosnia is next in the ranking, with 227 thousand tonnes, followed by India with 220 thousand tonnes and Italy and the U.S., with 210 thousand tonnes.

According to data for 2014, the global volume of exports of plums is estimated at 599.2 thousand tonnes, compared to 709 thousand tonnes in 2013. Some of the most important exporters are Spain, with 116.5 thousand tonnes, followed by South Africa, with 67.4 thousand tonnes, and Italy, with 61.2 thousand tonnes.
