Food safety through innovative concepts and IT-solutions

Through the advancing global trade the agriculture and food industry have to face the challenge to design new accompanying, cross-border security systems more economical, reliable and sustainable. The target of "Bonn.realis" (Bonn Research Alliance of Innovative Information Systems in International Quality Food Chain and Crisis Communication) is to increase the safety of food through innovative concepts and IT solutions and to ensure the food security for the population. This specific local alliance of scientific institutions, businesses and administrations in the region Bonn - Rhein-Sieg - Ahrweiler provides IT solutions for food and human safety with a special focus on the food sector and the emphasis of quality, crisis and risk management.

A network for the region
A major goal of Bonn.realis is to make the region Bonn – Rhein-Sieg – Ahrweiler a leading location for Quality and crisis communication in the future field of Food and Human safety. “Not only the companies, but also the cities and regions in the district of Bonn - Rhein-Sieg - Ahrweiler benefit from this cluster", says Bettina Hundt of the Chain Point GmbH. Chain Point is, among many others, a founding member of Bonn.realis and a leader in providing cloud-based software platforms. Among other things, ChainPoint developed Fresh.Point, a monitoring platform for the fruit and vegetable sector. “Our participating stakeholders meet during our Jour fixe periodically and exchange their experiences and ideas. This results in very promising partnerships in areas where the stakeholders under normal circumstances might have never come together”, Bettina Hundt reports.

Jour Fixe on 11 March 2015
Bonn.realis offers Jour fixe quarterly to its members and other interested people. The meetings are held in facilities of Bonn.realis members. The next Jour fixe takes place on 11 March 2015, in the Research Centre Jülich with the main topic “bioeconomy: Interfaces to Food and Human Safety”.
