Chinese banana harvest destroyed by typhoon

Authorities in Nanning town, in the Zhuang du Guangxi region are trying to save a banana harvest that has been severely damaged by typhoon Rammasun.

On Tuesday, over 1.6 million banana trees in Tanluo were knocked over by the storm, with financial loss at over 58 million Yuans. The Mayor of the town, Wei Shiguo, took part in the volunteer action to save damaged banana trees. Local authorities have been in contact with banks to offer loans to the banana producers that are victims of the typhoon.

“This financial support will allow them to restart a plantation and actively revive their agricultural work’’ underlined Wei.

Bananas are one of the most important agricultural products in the region. Tanluo used to be know as “the banana town’’.
