At least ten companies from the Nicaraguan agricultural sector are getting ready for moderate export to the European market, as part of a program from the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI), a Dutch entity.
"We have focused on the food industry because it's where we see the most potential for Nicaragua in the European market," said Erik Plaisier, program manager of the CBI for Latin America.
The Nicaraguan companies involved in this project belong to the fresh fruits sector, such as dragon fruit, roots and tubers, processed fruits, chia seeds, honey, cocoa, coffee and processed foods sectors.
Plaisier explained that these companies were being trained on information elements such as niche markets, compliance with technical regulations, quality and safety standards, as well as marketing strategies.
"This training has been delivered by European experts. The participating companies are experienced exporters, but only to the United States or at the regional level," said Plaisier.
The manager added that they hope that the companies will have managed to contribute at least $ 3.5 million dollars in exports to Europe once the program ends.
