Thanks to its 300 ha, 80 of which are greenhouses, Botticelli Cooperative occupies a great position on both the domestic and international markets.
"We supply important supermarket chains like Carrefour, Auchan and Sma. 60% of our produce is destined to the domestic market, whereas the rest goes to Switzerland, Poland, France and Northern Europe in general," explains Luciana Botticelli, sole administrator of the company.
"The most popular products in summer are watermelons (baby, whole, sliced and half) and melons."
In winter, courgettes, artichokes, pumpkins, chicory, spinach and agretti are the favourite.
"We started cultivating green and gold kiwis a few years ago." The Cooperative is also equipped with washing and packaging lines.
The company employs 21 people and it was established in the 1950s. It became a cooperative in 2008.
It started as a family business, later reinforced by partners from the Pachino and Gela areas in Sicily. It is now one of the leading distributing companies in Italy and also exports produce to Spain, Germany, Poland, England, Romania, Hungary, France, Switzerland, Holland and Austria.
Currently, the company is managed by 17 partners, who work to guarantee the high-quality and freshness of the produce. Botticelli also holds the GlobalGAP certifications and applies the HACCP system to the whole productive process.
In addition, the cooperative also provides its producers with an agronomist to assist them. This enables them to monitor the presence of residue to guarantee healthy and high-quality produce. What is more, the Cooperative is equipped with a sophisticated traceability system.
