A promotion of fresh fruit in the US came to a successful end

Chilean fresh fruit sales in DeCa supermarkets increases

The campaign to promote Chilean fresh fruit in 160 supermarket stores from the Defense Commissary Agency of the US Government (DeCa) ended successfully.

The promotion comprised all the territory, including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

The promotional campaign for Chilean fruit in North America, with the support the Export Promotion Bureau, ProChile, which was executed CFFA, on behalf of the national Chilean fruit export industry has paid off.

According to the Military Produce Group, one of the wholesalers that tends these chains, sales of Chilean fruits increased 29% during the weeks of the promotion campaign when compared to the sales achieved the same week last year; while the volume sold during the same period increased by 40% over last year. Meanwhile, another wholesaler recorded an increase in sales of Chilean fruit per unit sold, of over 53%, which, in dollars, represented a 36% increase over last year.

People are commenting in the CFFA that it is the first time that this type of initiative is carried out in the DeCa facilities, generating significant sales for Chilean producers and exporters during the peak of the Chilean exports of fresh fruits to North America season. This promotion had an unprecedented coverage, since it covered all of the American territory, including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

DeCA is a subsidiary of the Department of Defence of the United States, whose mission is to operate a global shopping system of supplies of fruits and vegetables, among other food products, to the active and retired US armed forces, as well as members of the reserve, the National Guard, and their families. It amounts to nearly US $500 million in sales of fresh products.
