First Chinese cherries make it to Taiwan

A batch of Chinese cherries, produced in the Eastern province of Shandong, have been exported to Taiwan. This is the first time fruits cultivated in China have been exported to Taiwan, according to a statement released from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

Some 310 kg of cherries were produced by Shengxing Fruit and Vegetable Co. after passing Taiwanese customs regulations.

The export of the fruit marks the realisation of a 2010 agreement on the export of Chinese cherries to Taiwan. Ordinarily cherries for sale on the Taiwanese market originate in the US, Canada or Chile.
