Belarus ready to supply food to Kaliningrad amid soaring potato prices

Belarus is prepared to supply essential food products, including potatoes, to Russia's Kaliningrad region, President Alexander Lukashenko said during a meeting with Governor Aleksey Besprozvannykh.

"Despite some logistical challenges, we will deliver the necessary volume of food products, including potatoes. The government has already reported that fresh, new Belarusian potatoes are hitting the shelves," Lukashenko was quoted by BelTA.

He emphasized Belarus's sense of responsibility toward Kaliningrad, calling it "a corner of our shared homeland," and affirmed Belarus's readiness to support the region whenever possible.

The statement comes amid a sharp rise in vegetable prices in Kaliningrad. According to regional data:

Potato prices increased by 49.73% in spring 2025, reaching 95.74 RUB/kg (approx. $1.07/kg).

Imported potatoes from Egypt and other countries are currently sold at 150–190 RUB/kg (approx. $1.68–$2.13/kg).
