Kyrgyzstan’s onion and garlic exports drop nearly 50-fold in Q1 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, Kyrgyzstan exported only 166 tonnes of onions and garlic, a sharp decline from 8,209.1 tonnes during the same period in 2024.

According to the National Statistics Committee, exports to key markets either significantly decreased or stopped entirely. Comparative figures for major destinations:

Uzbekistan:

  • 2024: 3,825 tonnes
  • 2025: 110.9 tonnes

Russia:

  • 2024: 601 tonnes
  • 2025: 16.4 tonnes

Kazakhstan:

  • 2024: 80 tonnes
  • 2025:16.6 tonnes

Pakistan:

  • 2024: 2,234 tonnes
  • 2025: no exports reported

Iraq:

  • 2024: 575 tonnes
  • 2025: no exports reported

At the same time, new export destinations emerged: Georgia imported 22 tonnes, and Mongolia 0.1 tonnes.
