Cormart expands local cold storage solutions in Nigeria

In alignment with Nigeria's national efforts to bolster food security and address the approximately 45% loss of agricultural produce due to inadequate storage, Cormart Nigeria Limited focuses on enhancing the country's cold chain infrastructure. The company, a part of Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group, is producing sandwich panels locally to construct cold rooms, addressing post-harvest losses and food preservation issues.

These sandwich panels are constructed with steel sheets and Polyurethane Foam (PU) cores, which provide insulation for optimal temperature control of perishable goods, including agricultural produce, frozen foods, and pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Johannes Flosbach, Executive Director of Cormart & Chi Farms Nigeria Limited, stated, "The ability to store perishable goods efficiently is a critical turning point for Nigeria's food security and economic growth." He added that local production of high-quality sandwich panels makes cold storage construction more accessible and affordable, catering to the needs of agriculture, food processing, and pharmaceutical sectors.

In collaboration with Big Dutchman, a company dealing in agricultural equipment, Cormart ensures that its sandwich panels meet international standards while being adapted to Nigeria's specific storage requirements. This partnership reinforces Cormart's commitment to quality.

Cormart identifies a market opportunity in Nigeria's cold storage deficit, estimated at $133 million, and has expanded its cold storage capacity to 3,000 metric tons. The company is dedicated to closing the gap in food preservation infrastructure.

As Cormart advances in Nigeria's cold chain industry, it remains focused on providing solutions that support economic growth, food security, and sustainability.
