Steve Barnes - Jetbest Group

New passionfruit 'bursts' onto the market

Jetbest Group, in partnership with Oz Pash, has launched the next generation of passionfruit, PassionBurst™.

"Bursting with juice, flavour, and a sensational taste profile, PassionBurst is set to become a consumer favourite," Steve Barnes, CEO Jetbest Group, "The new variety is the carefully nurtured result of years of hard work and investment in development of a breeding program focussed on refining agronomic characteristics and crop performance."

The Jetbest Oz Pash partnership now includes twenty-two commercial growers based between Northern New South Wales and Far North Queensland. For growers, PassionBurst provides a long-term, sustainable, whole-of-crop product suitable for retail, central market, food service, and processing customers.

"This innovative program is now producing significant volumes of next-generation passionfruit. PassionBurst is characterised by a heavy piece of fruit, filled with sensational flavour, juice, and pulp to deliver a delicious eating experience. Since being introduced to the central produce markets in Sydney and Brisbane, the variety has quickly gained market share. The loyal customer base often asks for the distinctive 'orange lidded' passionfruit.

"Connecting growers to consumers delivers better outcomes for all, and while Australian consumption of passionfruit remains steady YOY with only 12% of households purchasing on average 3.5 times per year, (Source: NielsenIQ Homescan for the 52 weeks ending 08/09/2024 for the Australian market), PassionBurst is expected to drive additional consumption by surprising and delighting consumers, who once they try them, love them," Nicole Lenske, Group Marketing Manager.

The Jetbest and Oz Pash teams are now working hard to return lost shoppers to the category and to introduce a new generation of consumers to passionfruit.

"Passionfruit is the ultimate snack; it's packed with vitamin A and C, has excellent levels of fibre and potassium, and is under 100 calories. They can be eaten alone as a snack or added to yoghurt, juices, smoothies, cereal, and fruit salads, but be warned: when cutting open PassionBurst, do so over a bowl! You don't want to waste a drop of the delicious juice! PassionBurst is now available in independent green grocers and supermarkets, so keep an eye out for the bright orange packaging!"
