North Korea's export drive to Russia from the Pukchong zone

The Pukchong Agricultural Development Zone, situated in South Hamgyong province of North Korea, is gearing up to commence exports to Russia, aligning with the government's objective to augment foreign currency reserves. The initiative involves tailoring products to cater to Russian consumer preferences in terms of taste, aroma, and packaging design.

With the endorsement of North Korea's Ministry of External Economic Relations, the zone is poised to introduce an array of agricultural products to the Russian market. Offerings include not only specialty dried apples but also pine mushrooms, doraji (bellflower roots), dried deodeok (lance asiabell), and dried clams, all classified as B-grade quality. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance product quality and competitiveness in international markets, thereby increasing foreign exchange earnings.

The zone is implementing quality control measures and investing in packaging and labeling equipment that meet international standards. These efforts are directed towards enhancing consumer confidence in Russia. Additionally, the zone is establishing a distribution network within Russia through partnerships with local entities, aiming for efficient product delivery and market penetration.

Pre-export promotional activities are underway, with plans to engage potential consumers in major Russian cities through various advertising and sales promotion strategies. These efforts are intended to familiarize Russian consumers with the unique qualities of the zone's agricultural products, laying the groundwork for securing long-term export contracts and enhancing the zone's international reputation.
