Peruvian banana exports approaching 93,000 tons so far in 2023

This past week, Peruvian banana exports have fallen to the lowest level recorded not only this year, but also in 2022. According to data shared by the consultancy firm Fresh Fruit, "Peru exported only 2,559 tons of this product, 30% less than in the same week last year. So far in 2023, shipments of this fruit have totaled 92,763 tons, which is only 1% above the previous season's figure."

"This week, Peruvian bananas reached 13 countries, with the most outstanding being Panama, with a 31% share (794 tons), followed by the Netherlands, with 13% (329 tons), and Belgium, with 12% (316 tons)."

Chile, which had been the main buyer of this product in previous weeks, considerably reduced its purchases down to 217 tons. "This could explain the sudden drop in the fruit's shipments this past week, as this country has usually accounted for between 20% and 50% of all weekly shipments; however, this week it represented only 9%," said Fresh Fruit.
