Heavy rain and winds in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts damage mango orchards

Towns in the districts of Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli received heavy rain this weekend. The showers were accompanied by heavy winds. In Man, mango trees were damaged. One farmer said the rain caused damage to the tune of Rs 350,000 to his orchard. The mangoes were in the harvesting stage, he said. "I found nearly 350 mango trees in my orchard had suffered damage. The government should take cognisance of the damage and grant compensation.”

Rainwater was gushing out of fields for several hours disrupting traffic in these areas. In Kodoli, the spell of rain was short but intense. Tree branches had broken and the sugar cane crop was damaged.
