As potato planting is wrapping in the northern states of the US, soil conditions have gone from too wet to very dry. In northwest Minnesota, soil conditions are much better now for the seed and fresh potatoes, considering there was a lot of snowfall over the winter. However, a little more moisture would go a long way.
In northern Wisconsin, some growers will start irrigating earlier than usual for their seed potatoes, which were planted in record time this spring, but growers there are still optimistic for the upcoming growing season, as long as there is rain in the forecast.
