Tons of mangoes are destroyed in Cuba every day

In Guantanamo municipalities such as San Antonio del Sur and Imías, hundreds of tons of mangoes are currently lost due to lack of management, relocation and marketing. This situation is continuing even as the island is facing a shortage of resources and food.

The inefficiencies of the production model are worsened by the lack of contracts and the impossibility of moving these crops. Unfortunately, this is a problem that repeats itself every year. Mango growers, for their part, see with each harvest how a great deal of the fruits of their labor rot on the ground. In 2017 alone, more than 2,600 tons of mangoes out of a total of 6,794 were lost in cultivation fields.
