Almaty is running out of groceries

Monitoring of the prices of socially significant food products conducted in stores of Almaty showed that the trend of decreasing the cost of the social basket, observed in the second half of April, has been replaced by a rise in prices. The prices of vegetables included in the list of social products sharply rose In the last week in the city.

The increase in the price of last year's crop vegetables is explained by small shop vendors and representatives of large retail by a decrease in stocks of viable vegetable products in warehouses and vegetable stores in the region.

The price of potatoes per kilogram increased by 51.4%. Carrots and cabbage have increased in price by 38.3% and 47.2%.

Last year's crop of onions on supermarket shelves cannot be found. Buyers were offered only "young" onions for the 2023 season.

Shop owners complained that cheaper vegetables are available in the region's largest wholesale market. But the quality of these vegetables will be poor – up to half of the vegetables are practically unsuitable for sale.
