"Late Binchuan Wogan mandarin season late this year, market expected to improve in May"

The Binchuan Wogan mandarin produced in Yunnan, China, is a late-ripening variety of domestic citrus, and it has been harvested and on the market for the past two months. "Binchuan Wogan is usually on the market from March to May every year. This year's production season has been postponed, and ready in April."

Mr. Zhang Yunxin, from Binchuan Lvzhiyuan Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., spoke to FreshPlaza. "Last year, the production was reduced due to the cold during the spring, and the price was pushed up. This year, the weather is ideal and the yield is high. They are large and good in quality. However, the recent market consumption has been weak, and the price and sales have not been as ideal. The price has risen before the Qingming Festival and has gradually fallen since then. The current production price is about ¥5.6-¥7/kg. "

According to Zhang, one of the characteristics of Binchuan Wogan is that the fruits of the two production seasons can be hung on the tree at the same time. According to the variety and climate characteristics, coupled with farmers' fresh-keeping technology, it is possible to "keep fresh on trees", that is, the ripe fruit can still hang on the tree for a certain period of time to achieve the purpose of preservation, and there is no rush to pick it, which is equivalent to prolonging the sales period of the product.

"Binchuan Wogan came to the market late this year. The first reason is the delay of the production season, and the second is that due to the sluggish market, farmers let fruits stay on the tree to "keep fresh on trees", hoping to wait for the higher price before picking and selling.

The recent market has not improved significantly, but the fruit is approaching the harvesting period, and farmers are already harvesting and selling. "It is reported that in Guangxi, another important production area, the production was reduced due to the weather at the end of last year. At that time, the strong demand at home and abroad made the price of Guangxi Wogan soar. Farmers in Binchuan hoped to get similar good prices, so they delayed harvesting.

The export market of Binchuan Wogan is mainly in Southeast Asia, and it is also exported to Russia, Japan and South Korea. "Binchuan Wogan has three competitive advantages. One is that it is launched late, after Guangxi Wogan, and there is less competition in the same period. The second is that the fruit has high hardness and is resistant to transportation and storage. The third is the long period of freshness preservation and sales. The fruit can be kept fresh on the tree for up to two months and can be stored in cold storage for another month after harvest."

Talking about the market outlook, Zhang said that the overall citrus market has been sluggish recently, regardless of domestic sales or exports, and neither market profits nor sales are ideal. Looking forward to May, the market for Binchuan Wogan may improve, because by then the citrus stocks in other production areas will be basically sold out, the competition will be reduced, and the weather will be hotter, which may help sales.

Binchuan Lvzhiyuan Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. is mainly engaged in the domestic and e-commerce sales of grapes, Wogan, pomegranates, walnuts and other products, and started export trade at the beginning of this year. The export products include fruits, walnuts, vegetables, and dry goods.
