One month to go for Limoré

"Our lemons sell at higher prices than the competition"

PGI lemons from Rocca Imperiale sold under the Limoré brand are known not only in Italy, but in Europe as well. What makes them stand out against the competition is not only the quality, but also the sales price.

"No potential clients like to pay more for a product when they could be paying less. When talking about Limoré, the sales price does not seem to deter purchases, as we have shown the value behind (and inside) these lemons right from the start. The juice yield above 40%, the limonene percentage of 75% and the intense aroma of the edible peel enable us to sell at a price that is 20-25% higher than those applied by our competitors," explains Pietro Buongiorno, sole administrator of Consorzio di Produttori di Limoni Associati, a business established less than 4 years ago but already present in various domestic and European supermarket chains.

The difficult socio-economic situation seems to affect the campaign. "We know we are not competitive, especially when families are trying to spend less on food. However, demand is livelier than in the past season, especially from foreign clients who absorb good part of our production. Our lemons are shipped from our processing facility in Calabria and reach the UK, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. The new Premium line, available in practical packets containing 2 and 4 fruits from 5-9 kg, enabled us to stand out even more. Consumers are willing to pay a higher price for our quality and are happy to purchase produce that is certified and checked along the entire chain."

70% of Limorè produce has been harvested so far. "The weather delayed harvesting, meaning a lot of larger grades became available all at the same time. However, also because of the crisis, demand is high for small grades (grades IV and V), which we won't be able to assure until the end of the season, which should be in late May."
