Sales of Norwegian fresh produce generally stable

According to figures of the Norwegian Agriculture Directorate, the sales of white cabbage are higher than in the previous two years, while stocks are lower and import prices higher. The first months of 2019, prices of white cabbage were even higher than target prices. As for Norwegian carrots, both sales and quality can be called good. The market for celeriac, beetroot and other varieties of beet is very stable.

Norwegian onions are supplemented with import from countries such as Denmark and the US. The import of onions from the west of the US, however, is very expensive. Problems regarding moisture during transport result in even higher costs. At the same time, about 125 tonnes of Norwegian onions are sold every week. Norwegian leek is no longer in stock, but this is normal for this time of year.

The mild weather in the south of Norway combined with the longer days resulted in a good start for the new tomato plants. The production of cucumbers is increasing. An import levy is imposed on cucumbers as of 11 March. The sales of potatoes are stable, between 900 and 1,000 tonnes per week. The potatoes are sorted thoroughly, and quality of the sold potatoes is good.

The market for organic products is stable. Availability of organic potatoes, onions, cabbage and other tuberous plants is good.
